take it or leaf it

Apologies for the bad pun :P

Miss Tizz had a friend over to play this afternoon, and the two of them, plus the X-man and me, went for a wander to the local playground. While they were slippery-dipping and see-sawing and making the X-man perform for rice crackers, I drew a leaf from a weed hiding in the overgrown grass.

Leaf in Italian is il foglia, which is pronounced something like folyah, making it obviously related to the English foliage.

Grass is l'erba, and weed is l'erbaccia, close to the English herb. And it was green - il verde. The playground is il campo giochi - literally, the field game.
