I've been working on the travel budget for Europe.
Looks like we should be able to get airfares (Sydney-London & Rome-Sydney, for both of us, economy) for under $A3500.
An apartment in Rome (Trastevere or somewhere fairly central) can be had in the vicinity of $A2500 for just under two weeks.
I'm still searching in London, but hoping to find something for about $2500 for 12 nights.
Then there's a couple of nights in Paris, a night or two in Naples (if we decide to stay, and not just do a long day trip to Pompeii), the Eurostar London to Paris, the overnight train Paris to Rome, transport in each city and for day trips, entry fees/guided tours, food, incidentals ...
Lucky we're not really into shopping, or this could get even more expensive! The $12,000 I originally set may need bumping up a little (there's the 'change'). I'll add some of the transport and other costs in soon, so I can get a more realistic idea.
And then I'd better get stuck into the work, so I can pay for it all - because none of it is being done on credit. I either pay up front, or we delay the trip and keep saving.
