If I was being sensible about next year's trip, I would limit it to Britain. Goodness knows we still wouldn't see everything there in four weeks, but we could see a fair bit and not just skim the surface. We would save money by staying in one country. We would save time without travelling long distances. We wouldn't have to learn another language. It's our first big overseas trip (I've been to New Zealand, Miss Tizz hasn't left Australia), and it would be a relatively 'easy' introduction to international travel.
And then we could plan a trip to Italy in a few more years.
If I was being sensible.
But you know what? As I started being sensible and taking advice not to do both England and Italy, I started feeling disappointed and losing enthusiasm. So stuff it. We can skip France this time. We can skip the Eurostar or the Channel ferry and the train trip from Paris to Rome. We can skip the possible brief sojourn in Switzerland on the way. We can skip Scotland, as much as I would like to go to Skye.
But we're going to England. And we're going to Italy. Specifically London, and specifically Rome/Pompeii/Ercolano. Those are non-negotiable. We can get a cheap flight between them to save time. So - two weeks in England, two weeks in Italy.
Decision #1 made. And I'm smiling all the way now :)
