I'm not a big dog fan, unless I know them really well, and they know me. And then I'll just be a bit nervous and keep a careful eye on them the whole time they're near.
In Canberra, a lot of people walk their dogs (often off-leash) along the pathways through the suburbs, and it's a big reason I don't walk as much as I should.
This evening the X-man and I were walking down to the local Guide hall to collect Miss Tizz. There was a man walking a doberman (on a lead) along the path, and the X-man was eyeing it nervously. If it was just me, I would have headed off in another direction, but I moved so I was between them, took his hand, kept walking, and talked to him reassuringly while they passed.
I realised I wouldn't hesitate to put myself between them and an attacking dog, and that's one of my worst nightmares.
My children make me brave.
I'm with you. Not into dogs unless I know them. People often walk them off the leash near our place too and it can be very scary indeed. Good on you! xx
