Hardly serious training yet, but a start has been made. Today, the kids and I walked around the block (well, the old school behind us). And I can no longer stay in denial about my lack of fitness. The cold and sinus problem I currently have didn't help, but I certainly need to make some serious improvements to my fitness levels before I head off overseas and all the walking that will entail.
I did start some fairly regular walking with a friend earlier this year, but a lot of things fell in a heap around July, and that was one of the casualties. We've walked a few times since then, but mostly I sit in front of the computer - my work, my social life, my relaxation, my learning all tend to be on the computer and internet, and at times (ok - more often than not) I sit here for 8-12 hours a day. I know it's not healthy - body, mind or soul - and I know a walk around the block will only take about 10 minutes, but somehow I never have time. Which is a complete load of bollocks, and nothing but an excuse.
I'm usually an all-or-nothing sort of person, but from experience I know that's not sustainable, so I'm trying a new approach. So the plan (and if you stick around long enough, you'll find I am full of plans, but not so great at sticking to them for any length of time) is that I will walk around the school each day for the next few days, and gradually increase the length of the walk.
I figure if I stick with it, I'll be ready for London walks, Paris walks, and lots of wandering around Rome too!
