obsession

The idea of travelling to Europe in the not too distant future is completely obsessing my thoughts. Yesterday I picked up travel brochures and a guide book, so I can start the planning process.

While I would love to go for a few months, and I'd have no hesitation in taking Miss Tizz (who's eight now, but will be at least nine before we head off) out of school for that time, I don't think I could leave The X-man (now aged 6) for that length of time. I'm reasonably comfortable with an absence of a month though, so that's what I'm working towards. Perhaps I should have done this pre-children, but I can't go back, and I suspect Miss Tizz will be a great travel companion, so no regrets.

So - a month in Europe. I realise I won't do as much with a child as I would on my own, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Her must-do is the London Eye, mine is Pompeii, so England and Italy are at the top of the list of destinations. France is in the middle, so it's on the list too. We're also considering Greece, but I suspect it may have to wait for next time (and there will be a next time), along with Spain and Portugal (perhaps a Mediterranean trip). Northern and Eastern Europe will also have to come later, as well as Egypt/Israel/Jordan etc.

We're thinking around October, as the weather is cooling down in the northern hemisphere, but before it gets cold. I have zero interest in snow!

The plan is to pin down an itinerary, and book and pay for as much in advance as we can, leaving us free to enjoy ourselves once we get there. I would probably do things differently on my own, but travelling with a child I want a little more security.
